Division of Fire and Life Safety

Director's Office

Our Mission is to prevent the loss of life and property from fire and explosion. Fire safety is improved through three means. Our bureaus are formed on that basis.

I invite you to browse our pages and take advantage of the opportunity to know us better and learn how you and those you care for can be fire safe.

I believe that fire safety is an individual responsibility but it is our role to provide resources to assist in that effort.

Help us to help you make Alaska a fire safe place in which to live, work, and play.

Transition from ANFIRS to NERIS

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) and Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) are leading the transition to the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS).  The Fire Departments in Alaska are scheduled to implement NERIS in October of 2025. The National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) is being decommissioned and both it and the data it stores will NO LONGER BE ACCESSIBLE AFTER 2025.  Under the current Alaska NFIRS process, all incident reports are submitted to our office then to USFA. With NERIS, however, this step will be bypassed, and local fire departments will enter all incidents data directly into the NERIS system.
