Troopers Comment on Federal Drug Charges Announced Today

April 9, 2021 (Anchorage, AK) – Today the Alaska State Troopers released the following statement regarding the federal indictment of eight US citizens and 2 Mexican nationals on federal drug charges.

Today, a federal grand jury indictment was unsealed charging ten people, including five Alaskans, for their roles in a large-scale drug trafficking enterprise that has been under investigation for nearly three years. In early 2018, an Alaska State Troopers led taskforce, the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team, identified suspicious passengers at the Anchorage International Airport that kicked off the investigation that led to these indictments,” said Alaska State Trooper Captain Andrew Gorn, Commander of the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit. “Disrupting the distribution of illicit narcotics in Alaska is a top priority for Troopers. The Trooper-led Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit and its regional taskforces will continue to work with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to rid Alaska’s streets of illegal drugs and arrest those responsible.”

The Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team is made up of law enforcement officers from the Alaska State Troopers, Anchorage Police Department, Anchorage Airport Police Department, North Slope Borough Police Department, Sand Point Police Department, Dillingham Police Department, US Coast Guard Investigative Service, US Postal Inspection Service, US Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, and Internal Revenue Service.
