A Detachment ------------------------------------------------------------ Location: Haines Case Number: 09-102946 Type: No Valid Operators License Text: On 11/16/09 at 1530 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a vehicle in the ditch at 24 mile Haines Highway. Investigation revealed 17 yoa Blaze Nicholai Gardner of Haines lost control of a 2002 Dodge van on very icy roads and rolled it in the ditch. Gardner was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured and the vehicle sustained substantial damage. Subsequent investigation revealed Gardner did not possess a valid operators license in any state and was summonsed to appear in court on December 03, 2009. While on the property, the vehicle caused damage to the lawn requiring it to be re-seeded. Hagwood will appear in the Haines District Court on December 03, 2009. Hermon Road, Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Frank W. Peterson, age 71, of Wasilla, had passed away due to natural causes. Next of Kin was on scene at the time of death. Investigation revealed Amy L. Weber, age 24 of Wasilla, was intoxicated when she caused approximately $500 damage to a family member's vehicle before fleeing the scene driving a red 1998 Plymouth Neon 4-door. Weber was contacted on Anaheim Drive near Bogard Road in Wasilla while operating the vehicle. Weber was arrested without incident and remanded to MSPT where she was held without bail. Investigation revealed that Cristopher Y. Becker, age 17, of Wasilla, was operating a 1986 gray Ford F-250 northbound on Alder Drive. Becker was attempting to navigate a ninety degree corner when his vehicle lost control on the ice and collided with a 1998 red Dodge Ram driven by Lucas Z. Bartel, age 16, of Wasilla. Bartel was eastbound on Alder Drive when the collision occurred. Total damage to the vehicles was estimated at $3,500.00. Becker was issued a citation for Basic Speed. No injuries were reported and all parties reported wearing their safety belts. Investigation revealed that Iola Brandsema, age 74, of Palmer, was operating a 1989 red Chrysler 4 door sedan eastbound on Palmer-Wasilla Highway and failed to stop for a 1996 black Jeep Cherokee driven by Karen Meier, age 32, of Palmer, which was stopped for a red light at the intersection also east bound when the collision occurred. Total damage to the vehicles was estimated at $4,500.00. Brandsema was issued a citation for a Driver to Exercise Due Care to avoid a Collision. One of the passengers in the Meier's vehicle was transported to Mat Su Regional Hospital for observation/tests and released with a minor injury. An investigation revealed that Dennis Pranuk, age 99, of Chefornak, passed away while at his residence from natural causes. Subsequent investigation by Exchange personnel and State Troopers revealed Griffin then returned the ring in September at which time she received a refund for $879.00. Investigation revealed that a white male with red hair and a red goatee wearing a black hooded sweatshirt opened the front door of a parked vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victims demanding their wallet. The victim gave the wallet to the suspect and the suspect then removed the keys from the victim's vehicle ignition. The suspect then left the scene on foot to a parked car located approximately 100 yards away on Friars Way, entered the vehicle and left the area. The suspect vehicle was described as a dark colored 4 door car similar to a Toyota Corolla. The victims received no injuries during the assault. Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a theft from a home in the Campus Corner area. Investigation revealed that apx. $500 dollars in cash had been taken from the victim's wallet while he slept. Three male juveniles were guests in the home at the time. One of the juveniles fled the scene before AST arrived. He was reportedly wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a zebra striped backpack. The student who owned the vehicle and firearms was interviewed and the firearms were seized. The juvenile was turned over to the custody of a parent. Troopers contacted Samuel Hanson, 27 yoa of Anchor Point. When Hanson was contacted by Troopers he fled the scene in his vehicle. Hanson led Troopers on a brief pursuit where he was contacted at his residence and placed under arrest. Hanson was additionally found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to the Homer Jail where he was remanded with no bail on charges of Eluding I and DUI. The victim suffered 2nd degree burns to his face and was released by the Emergency Room to a family member. Campbell reported his horses and mule got free from their pen around 1700 hours the night before and the mule had run off into the woods over the night. Troopers investigation revealed Calvin Miller, 63 yoa of Ninilchik, had shot at the mule with a .12 gauge shotgun intending to scare the animal off. The mule sustained injuries to its posterior region. Charges of Criminal Mischief IV are being referred to the Kenai District Attorney's Office for review against Miller. On 11/17/09 in the Emmonak District Court, C. Augline pled guilty to the charge and received $1500 in fines and was placed on a 3 year probationary period for no fish and wildlife offenses, given 10 days in jail with 10 days suspended. Investigators seized 83 marijuana plants, approximately 5 pounds of processed marijuana, related growing equipment and six firearms. The home owner was not present when the warrant was served. Four counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree will be filed against the owner of the property. On 11-17-09, Investigators conducted an investigative contact at a Copper Center residence, suspected of having a commercial marijuana grow operation. Investigators contacted the home owners and obtained consent to search the property. 31 marijuana plants, processed marijuana and related growing equipment were seized. No arrests were made and investigators will file four counts of MICS IV against the two suspects (husband and wife). Investigators anticipate additional drug seizures over the next several weeks as investigations continue in the Glennallen area.
