A Detachment Location: Ketchikan Case number: AK12203977 Type: MVA-D Text: On 4-24-12 at approximately 1310 hours, Ketchikan AST was notified of a motor vehicle accident at approximately the 6 mile marker on Revilla Road. Investigation revealed that Chad Jacks, 21 of Ketchikan, was operating a 2000 Ford Explorer when he lost control on loose gravel. The vehicle slid into a ditch and bounced into a creek bed coming to rest approximately 15 feet down an embankment. The vehicle was totaled. Jacks reported wearing his seat belt and the airbag deploying. Jacks was transported to the Ketchikan Peace Health Hospital by the North Tongass Fire Department for evaluation and released. AST arrived on scene and determined that all occupants were able to safely exit the residence. Local volunteer fire fighters arrived on scene and were able to gain control the fire before it spread. No one was injured in the blaze but the residence is expected to be a total loss. The fire was believed to have been caused by an unattended smoker. During the investigation AST identified a passenger from the involved vehicle as 22 year old Patrick Metrokin, of Kodiak. At the scene Metrokin became emotionally out of control. Metrokin began smashing the windshield out of his mother's pickup truck. He was subdued by AST and arrested for Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree (class C Felony) / Domestic Violence. The damage to the windshield is estimated at more than $500.00. Metrokin was remanded to Kodiak City Jail and held without bail pending an arraignment. The vehicle failed to stop and after a brief pursuit the suspect vehicle crashed into a ditch. The driver was identified as Steven R. Macinko, age 19, of Kodiak. Macinko's passenger suffered non life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Macinko was found to impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision. Macinko was arrested at the scene for Driving Under the Influence, Minor Consuming Alcohol, Minor Operating after Consuming Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Eluding in the 1st Degree, and Assault in the 3rd Degree. Macinko was remanded to the Kodiak City Jail and held without bail pending an arraignment. This is Macinko's third arrest for DUI in a 17 day period. Investigation revealed that 28 year old Brian L. Peterson of Akhiok was firing a 9mm handgun from the front porch of his residence. During the course of the investigation it was determined that Peterson was impaired by alcohol while in possession of the handgun. The VPSO arrested Peterson and transported him to Kodiak by air taxi. After arriving in Kodiak Peterson was remanded to the Kodiak City Jail and charged with one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon 4th Degree (a Class A Misdemeanor). Bail was set at $500.00. Michael had attended a funeral in Russian Mission on 4/24/12 and visited with a friend. State Troopers contacted the friend who confirmed that Michael was the last individual to leave Russian Mission on the overland trail for Marshall on 4-24-12 at about 2030 hours. The normal travel time to Marshall from Russian Mission on the overland trail is approximately 1.5-2 hours. Michael was driving his 1980's model black Polaris 500 snowmachine. A check of both communities by local searchers confirmed that Michael was not in either village. State Troopers coordinated with SAR teams in both villages and two searchers from each community were actively searching the overland trail between the villages. At about 1502 hours, Marshall SAR personnel reported to State Troopers that the ground searchers from Marshall located Michael on the overland trail and transported him back to Marshall. Michael is said to be in good condition and all searchers have been recalled. He was found in an open lead in the Tanana River where the search was concentrated after finding the missing snowmachine in the water at 1237 hours. Next of kin was notified. The body will be sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage for an autopsy. Original Text: On 04-24-12 at 0900 hours Tanana Village Public Safety Officer Sgt. Mark Haglin received a report that George Roberts, 40, of Tanana had not returned from a snowmachine outing after getting separating from a group of snowmachiners on the Tanana River. Roberts was last seen at 2315 hours on 4-23-2012 approximately five miles upriver from Tanana in an area near Eightmile Island. People on snowmachines and volunteers from Tanana search and rescue combed the area until it was deemed the ice was too unstable for travel on the afternoon of 4-24-2012. A Civil Air Patrol Cessna 172 and Alaska Wildlife Trooper R-44 helicopter, Helo-2, searched by air on 4-24-2012. A seat matching one from the snowmachine Roberts was reportedly riding was found in an open lead of water that afternoon. Today, 4-25-2012, AWT continues the aerial search while two Alaska State Troopers flew to Tanana to help with the search on the ground and in the water. Christopher John (24 yoa of Fbks) and Jared Seay (26 yoa of North Pole) were arrested for two counts of Burglary 1, two counts of Theft 2, and Tampering with evidence. John and Seay forced entry into a residence and stole a firearm, and $500+ worth of electronics. They fled the scene and hid the stolen items in the North Pole area. AST recovered the stolen items. Jacobs was issued a warning and advised to terminate the phone calls, he was impairing the the ability for AST Dispatch to place and receive emergency telephone calls.
