A Detachment ----------------------------------------- Location: Prince of Wales Island Case Number: AK12203681 Type: SAR UPDATE Text: At approximately 1200 hours on 4/24/2011, searchers found David Ford in good health with minimal injuries. He was transported by Ketchkikan Volunteer Rescue Squad to Ketchikan General Hospital for evaluation. On 4/21/2012 at approximately 1201 hours, Ketchikan dispatch received a 911 call reporting a missing person in the area of Salmon Bay Lake on the northeast corner of Prince of Wales Island. It was reported that Taquan Air had flown David Ford, 57, of Ketchikan to an area U.S. Forest Service public use cabin on Salmon Bay Lake for a solo fishing trip. When Taquan Air flew back to pick Ford up on 4/21/2012, the pilot was unable to locate him in the area. Klawock Search and Rescue was advised and sent a four member hasty team to the area. At approximately 1800 hours, the hasty team located a small skiff with Ford's gear near the mouth of the creek, which drains into the ocean. The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad joined the search on 4/22/2012 and has been searching the area on foot and by air via Temsco helicopters. KVRS also searched the area using two canine SAR teams. On 4/22/2012, the U.S. Coast Guard sent a helicopter with a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR)camera to search. All efforts have been unable to locate any other signs of Ford. The U.S. Forest Service is sending seven people to the area to help KVRS with searching today. Investigation revealed 33 year old Jon M. Redulic of Eagle River was operating a gray 2008 BMW 4-door sedan westbound on Palmer Wasilla Highway when his vehicle rear-ended a silver 2005 Toyota Tundra pick up truck operated by 30 year old Gregg A. Mallick of Wasilla. No injures were reported, all parties reported wearing a seat belt, and Redulic was cited for Failure to Exercise Due Care to Avoid a Collision. Damages are estimated at $5000 for the BMW and $1000 for the Toyota. Text: On 4-17-12, the Alaska State Troopers arrested Marvin Takak, 33 yoa in Elim after an investigation showed that M. Takak had consumed a large amount of alcohol which violated conditions of his probation. During the arrest, Elim Village Police Officer, Laverne Ashenfelter was assaulted by M. Takak who resisted arrest. M. Takak was detained and taken to the Elim Public Safety Office where he later broke the jail cell door. After gaining compliance, M. Takak was returned to a secure holding cell. M. Takak was later transported and remanded to Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome. The VPSO responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. The investigation revealed Ouzinkie resident Pete W. Muller Jr., age 18, had burglarized a village home, stolen alcohol, consumed alcohol, stolen three motor vehicles including the aforementioned forklift, and possessed marijuana. Muller was placed under arrest for Burglary in the 1st Degree (class B Felony), Vehicle Theft in the 1st Degree x2 (class C Felony), Vehicle Theft in the 2nd Degree x 1 (class A Misdemeanor), Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the 6th Degree (class B Misdemeanor), and Minor Consuming Alcohol (violation). Investigation determined that the driver, Kristen Moser, age 16, of North Pole, was driving a 2010 Arctic Cat ATV westbound on Silverleaf Rd when she was unable to stop and collided with another 2010 Arctic Cat ATV driven by Sharelle Moser, age 16, of North Pole. Both K. Moser and her passenger were thrown from the ATV. All parties involved were not wearing helmets and K. Moser was transported to FMH by EMS for injuries sustained in the crash. Further investigation revealed that K. Moser had driven the ATV under the influence of alcohol and was issued a summons for MOCA. Investigation revealed that Banford Charles, age of 56 of Tok, pointed a handgun at two subjects near his friend's property. Subsequent investigation revealed that Charles is a convicted felon. Both individuals attempted to hike to the top of the mountain when they realized they hiked away from the trail and become stuck in deep snow, becoming wet and cold. The Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) and AST helicopter Helo 1 responded to the area and located the two individuals .7 mi away from McHugh Creek parking lot. Both subjects were flown to the parking lot without incident and reported no injuries. Investigators seized 33 live marijuana plants as well as processed marijuana and marijuana growing equipment. A suspect was identified and criminal charges of MICS 4th Degree are being forwarded to the district attorney's office.
