Salary and Benefits

The base monthly salary for a State Trooper Recruit varies based on geographic location. Sitka and Ketchikan's salary is $4,390; Anchorage , Palmer, and Soldotna is $4,078; Fairbanks is $4,231. Salaries are subject to modification by terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Minimum base salary after successful completion of probation and promotion to State Trooper is $4,726 per month. There are two (2) separate collective bargaining agreements that cover Trooper salaries; the PSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The State Trooper Recruit receives benefits including paid leave and holidays, life and health insurance programs for the State Trooper Recruits and their dependents, and an excellent retirement program once they are vested. A copy of the current collective bargaining agreement that details salaries and benefits for Alaska State Troopers represented by the Alaska Public Employees Association is entitled "Public Safety Employee Association " and can be found at the Division of Labor Relations site.

Changes were made to the PSEA contract that were effective July 1, 2009. These changes include a 3 percent wage increase each year, a 5-percent premium for public safety employees assigned to conduct aquatic dives, handle explosives or participate on the department’s Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), premium pay to pilots, and relocation incentives for troopers required to move to remote locations.

Effective July 1, 2009, the wage schedule shall increase by additional three percent (3%). Effective July 1, 2010, the wage schedule shall increase by additional three percent (3%).
